Care Assistant

Job Code: Direct Support

Reports to: Office Management and/or Heather Ridenour, Human Resource Manager

Independence Assistance is committed to helping individuals and families maintain their independence and quality of life by providing personal and home assistance services ranging from transportation, housekeeping, shopping, meal planning and preparation, assistance with self-administration of medication and more.

Job Purpose:

As a Care Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting individuals in their home to attain personal outcomes and desires by establishing a positive and respectful relationship with each individual served.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  1. 1)  Assisting with activities of daily living for the client which may include:

    • Ambulation

    • Medication reminders

    • Personal Care (feeding, grooming, toileting, etc.)

    • Bathing assistance

    • Dressing assistance

    • Transportation and/or transportation arrangements

    • Toileting

    • Housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning toilets, sinks, tubs/showers, etc.

    • Laundry

    • Shopping and errands

    • Meal preparation, cooking, and cleanup

    • Feeding

    • Pet care

    • Social stimulation and emotional support

    • Monitor the safety and well-being of the client

  2. 2)  Assist with self-administration of medication(s) by reminding the client when to take medication(s) and observing to ensure the client takes the medication(s) as directed.

    Refer to (KRS 216.710(b) 1,2,3 (a,b,c) 4 for correct procedures on assisting the client with self-administration.

  3. 3)  Travel to areas of need to provide care to individuals

  4. 4)  Notify supervisor of any signs or suspicions of abuse or neglect against the client.

  5. 5)  Support individuals to maintain a safe and healthy environment

  6. 6)  Facilitate independence and choice and participation with; activities of daily living; work and productive activities;

    leisure

  7. 7)  Provide care according to clients plan of care

  8. 8)  Remain knowledgeable of clients care needs and supports

  9. 9)  Follow the plan of care and tasks for support and achievements

  10. 10)  Document according to policy and procedures

  11. 11)  Operation of vehicles in accordance to company policy, local and state and federal laws

  12. 12)  Complete mandatory training as assigned

Office Support Staff

Reports To: Heather Ridenour, Human Resource Manager

Job Purpose:

Office Support Staff must be professional, friendly, and work well with fellow employees and clients. Exhibit excellent time management, oral and written communication skills possessing the ability to relate to all levels of staff, and complete paperwork timely, correctly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Office Support Staff is responsible for operating a multi-line telephone system; to answer incoming calls and direct callers to appropriate personnel, greeting guest, maintaining office supplies, and provide general administrative support to office. This is a full-time position with minimal to no overtime required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Retrieves messages from voice mail and forwards to appropriate personnel.

  • Takes and prepares meeting minutes

  • Assists office team with tasks as needed.

  • Answers incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of call and forwards calls to appropriate

    personnel.

  • Takes thorough written messages and delivers messages in a timely manner.

  • Answers questions about organization and provides callers with addresses, directions and various other

    information as needed.

  • Greets persons entering establishment, determines nature of business and announces visitors to

    appropriate personnel.

  • Ensures cleanliness of lobby area

  • Receives, sorts and routes mail and deliveries to appropriate personnel.

  • Maintains fax machines, assists users, sends faxes, retrieves and routes incoming faxes as needed.

  • Runs local errands such as mailing oversized/certified envelopes or picking up/delivering documents as

    needed.

  • Performs administrative support tasks such as proofreading, transcribing handwritten information,

    composing and sending simple letters, memos and fax coversheets.

  • Assists with client and staff concerns over the phone and/or in person as they are presented.

  • Orders supplies and maintains office supplies

  • Perform Care Assistant duties including Personal care, Homemaking and Escort with clients in the field as

    needed.
